It's been almost a week and Victor's only woke up a couple times. It wasn't for long and I could barely understand him. He was speaking Spanish in the few times he woke up.
I was nervous that he wouldn't get better and I would pace around the house on all fours. Mew following behind me.
Tories would watch me with an expression I didn't have a name for, it wasn't annoyed but more like nervous along with something else.
"Lewis, calm down. Victor will be ok, I promise." She told me, trying to calm me down.
"I can't. I'm scared. Victor's my brother. I can't lose him, Toriel!" I felt tears forming,my eyes were burning,"He's the only one who never left! Regina died, the doctors came and left, and Ned would leave us for days while the others watched us! They'd separate us.....they hurt us.....W-We can't be separated forever....."I trembled and just flopped onto the floor. Curling up into a ball as I began to cry.
She looked at me with big sad eyes,"What happened to you two, child?" She got on her knees and pet my horns gently,"What kind of life have you two lived?"
I just looked up at her with tears and snot running all over my face before resting my muzzle on her lap,"W-We were always there.....In that cold box, with humans in white coats looking at us and writing things down. Th-They would stick us with needles and shock us if we touched the glass. They...." I trembled,"They made me kill her.....They made me kill Regina.....They made me do it..." I started crying harder,"I didn't want to but they made me do it! She was nice to me! She wanted to show me her garden! She smelled like Daffodils, Toriel! She showed me Daffodils and fed me jerky strips! She was nice to me AND THEY MADE ME KILL HER! I DON'T WANT YOU TO DIE BECAUSE YOU'RE NICE TO ME, TORIEL!" I couldn't talk anymore, I just started crying uncontrollably into Toriel's side as she tried to comfort me.
"Shhh, it's ok, my child. It's ok. I'm not going anywhere. I promise. Shhhh." She said in her gentle voice, though it cracked like she was crying, too. She scratched my plated head and rubbed my shoulders as she hugged me close to her chest. I could hear her heartbeat. After sitting like that for a while, I was finally able to calm down after sitting on the floor for so long.
"Would you like to help me in the kitchen? I'm going to make some soup for Victor, and I think I could use your help. Would you like to help?" She asked me softly.
I look up at her and tilted my head slightly,"But I don't know anything about making anything in the kitchen..."
"That's ok, my child. You're still young. I can show you what to do." She smiled.
"I won't be a bother?" I asked.
"Not at all." She said. She did something that surprised me. She put her lips on my forehead. It made a funny little pop/smack sound.
I touched the spot she did the pop sound,"What was that?"
"What was what?"
"That thing you just did. The noise on my forehead."
"That was a kiss, my child."
"Yes. It's a sign of love."
I touched the spot again and smiled,"I like kisses."
She smiled a warm smile before kissing my forehead again,"Come along. I can show you how to make soup. And maybe some pie later, just for you and me."
My tail wagged happily as I gladly followed her into the kitchen.
I woke up in a room. Not the glass cage we were stuck in, but a bed room.
It's been years since I've been in a bedroom.
I was under a blanket and I could smell something in a different room.
I sat up and my head felt heavy. My body was cold and hot all at once. My wing especially, it had a strange pulse on it.
I heard footsteps coming toward the door.
I wanted to react and get ready to fight but everything felt heavy. I could barely move.
A knock came from the door and I heard my brother's voice,"Victor? Are you awake?"
"Lewis? Are you ok?"
The door opened and he was there, along with that woman. Toriel.
"I'm ok. Are you? You look terrible." He said.
I grunted a bit,"Thanks. Where are we?"
Tories spoke up,"You're in my home. You're sick and your wing is infected."
"I helped her make your soup!" Lewis beamed proudly. It was the first time I had ever seen him like that.
I pushed myself to sit up,"You did?"
He nodded,"We made it for you! So you can feel better!" His tail swung back and forth in excitement.
I patted his shoulder,"Thanks Hermanito."
He looked at me,"That's....little brother....right?"
I nodded,"Right. See, you can learn." I smiled weakly. My stomach growled loudly.
He tried to give me the bowl but I stopped him.
"Lewis, have you eaten anything?"
"Victor, I ate earlier and I had some of the soup while we were making it."
He nodded,"Please eat it, Victor. I want you to get better." He looked at me with those big blue eyes of his.
I sighed and pet his shoulder again,"Fine. But I can't do this every time. I need to be sure you've eaten, ok?"
"Ok, Victor." he holds out the bowl of soup for me and I carefully take it from him.
It was a little weird holding it in my claws. I just stared at it for a moment before drinking it straight from the bowl. It tasted pretty good and it felt good have something on my stomach.
My nerves didn't relax, however. I may have been sick but I still couldn't shake the feeling of paranoia.
I still felt like something terrible was going to happen.
But Lewis seemed happy and I couldn't take that away from him.
We've been here for about two years and Toriel's planning something special for our birthdays. Lewis is turning 15 and I'm turning 20.
I don't remember my actual birthday anymore and we don't know Lewis's birthday so we just decided to use the day we Fell as our birthday.
I got better from the infection but my wing didn't move correctly and, after several failed attempts, I wasn't able to fly anymore. I instead took up running through the Ruins to keep myself from entirely getting comfortable. A small amount of muscle formed on my lanky body.
Lewis, on the other hand, loved cooking with Toriel and was happy reading books and writing. With him clinging to Toriel's side and using food to keep his mind off of his nightmares, he was getting pretty chubby.
Today, I was showing Lewis my long running route in the Ruins to let Toriel prepare for her surprise.
"Victor?" He asked.
"How come you don't like Toriel?"
I sighed a bit,"It's.....complicated..."
"She's nice to us. She's taken good care of us-"
"So far." I interrupted.
"Victor!" He said in an annoyed tone.
"Old habits die hard, Hermanito. It's not that I'm not grateful, I just can't trust her. Not entirely."
"She's not with them, you know....She's gonna have to know everything, eventually."
"I know that, Lew, it's just that....it's hard for the both of us to talk about....You've told her a lot but there are things that happened to us that I know for a fact that you haven't told her. There are things that happened to me that you don't know about."
"I know.....I hear you apologizing to them....Tanya, Charlotte, Louise,...others."
I gave him a look.
"You talk in your sleep....Sorry I didn't tell you."
"Why didn't you say something, stupid?" I playfully hit him with my tail.
"I figured you'd tell me when you were ready. Toriel says the same thing,'You can tell me when you're ready.'"
I looked at him and smile a bit,"You'll know what happened to me someday."
"Ok. Whenever you're ready."
